12 British banks downgraded by Moody’s

LONDON (Xinhua) — The rating service Moody’s downgraded its credit ratings of 12 British banks on Friday, including state-owned Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB.

“Moody’s Investors Service has today downgraded the senior debt and deposit ratings of 12 UK financial institutions and confirmed the ratings of one institution,” the agency said in a statement.

CDC files for bankruptcy protection

NEW YORK (Xinhua) — CDC Corp. an internet-related Chinese company listed in NASDAQ, filed on Wednesday for bankruptcy protection, hammering its stocks by more than 50 percent.

CDC filed the bankruptcy in the U.S. bankruptcy court in Atlanta. According to CDC’s latest quarterly earnings report, it had 377.4 million dollars in assets and 250.2 million dollars in liabilities.

U.S. stocks rally on hopes for European bank recapitalization

NEW YORK (Xinhua) — U.S. stocks rallied for the second day on Wednesday as market sentiment was boosted by news that European leaders were working to shore up banks.

The blue-chip Dow gained about 1.2 percent at the close. The broader S&P 500 rose nearly 1.8 percent while the tech-heavy Nasdaq rallied over 2.3 percent.
