The Influence of Peso Value on Philippines BPO Industry

BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) industry is a growing industry since then. It has a record of 46 % growth since 2006. BPO offers many job opportunities to the Filipino people and contributes in economy growth.

How Philippines money value has an effect on the BPO industry? Experts says that besides of being good of the workforce,  the Peso value and wage rates are some of the factors affecting the investors in making this kind of business in the country. Low salary rate will lessen their operational expense moreover; the money rate is a much big factor with this.BPO industry

The rate is between the ranges of 45.00 to 48:00 Pesos when you convert it to $1.00. Just imagine the amount difference. That is why operating a business in our country is much cheaper than in US or Canada. 1 dollar is worthier here in our country and  in every way business operations needs much money for various operational expenses such as the renting or buying of space for your office locations, office supplies and equipments, telephone lines, business permits and licensure and many more. Those things needed to spend or buy in the country and they will be using Peso value when they acquire those requirements.

Some economists says that stronger peso value can effect the BPO industry for investors will be having second thought having a business here in our country if the Philippine money value appreciated versus the dollar regardless of having good worker in the field. The tendency is to go for the country with much low money value.

Barack Obama Unveils True Colors

After officially being adjudged the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama’s true colors have finally been revealed. He has had a mapped out plan from the start and mind you, unless you are in a country where the U.S. will benefit, consider yourselves in trouble.

Countries in Asia are not in the prime list. They are actually second on his agenda. Among the main countries that Obama has talked to are the ones who he will have certain itineraries, most notably helping lift the economy of the U.S. back on its feet like France, the United Kingdom and so on. As for the rest? No one knows what his real intent is.

The Philippines is far from the list. Not that I am siding with controversial Philippine President Gloria-Macapagal Arroyo but it seems that Obama knows that the Philippines will only ask for aid and help from them. Apparently at the moment, the U.S. would rather save it for their own countrymen which is understandable. But is that fair? Isn’t that discriminating? You can just imagine one of his ignorant staff could have asked: “Where is the Philippines?

Well, we have to wait and see in 2010. But from the things that are happening now, it doesn’t look good. I hate to say it but it looks like the motto of Obama right now is if you don’t have anything to offer, you are the least of my problems.

“I think [an Obama-Arroyo] meeting is unlikely because the president-elect, as I understand it, is not yet meeting with foreign leaders. He is busy assembling his Cabinet,” the US ambassador said.

The sidelining of the Arroyo call gave a glimpse of the importance of the Philippines to the United States at a moment of change of administration.

It is clear that the Philippines stands on the outer perimeter of US concerns in world affairs.

The first telephone conversations reveal the Philippines is not within the charmed circles of the Obama administration. It is a leper outside looking in.

It is imperative that Manila should rearrange its priorities vis-à-vis Washington. Obama is not our friend.

Fake Perfumes and Fake Advertising of Scents for Cents

In the Philippines, providing alternatives in any line of business is really something to behold. You can refill ink cartridges, bottled water and now perfumes. Now the initial two are something common we see in the world market today but the latter, refillable perfume is something that is bound to make you wonder, “What will they think of next?

Well, there is this small stall located at the 3rd level of Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas. I actually saw it last week when my wife was looking for Prescripto, a known local company that sells imitation perfume in fabricated simple bottles. While looking for it, we came across this stall called Scents for Cents which showcased a lot of original perfumes to which I saw my favorite, the Tommy Boy brand.

I know very well that there is no sense in considering it since knowing stuff that came from the Philippines, it is sure to be fake. These perfume concoctions are normally mixed with 90% water and 10% the actual scent. How do they maintain the scent? Well, we all know how strong and how easy it is to create aromas that can be easily added into the mixture.

Anyway, I decided to give it a try. Take note of this advertising placard they had which you cannot miss!

WE REFILL ORIGINAL PERFUMES

So upon seeing that, I had an old original bottle that I got from the United States and brought it there. I just wanted to see if they really can refill the bottle.

To my surprise when I got there, the sales attendant told us that they cannot refill original bottles because they are sealed. In dismay, I pointed to the placard and said “If that is the case, why do you place that ad card. You are fooling people!”

She replied, “We only refill perfumes that make use of our bottles, sir

So in a matter of speaking it was supposed to say:

WE REFILL ORIGINAL PERFUMES THAT MAKE USE OF OUR BOTTLES

Talk about advertising, that was a cheap shot. But nevertheless, I had no intention of buying anyway so I let it go.

Then I wanted to ask how much the bottle of Tommy Boy perfume was using their bottle even if my wife was telling me that it was not worth it. The answer?

Sorry sir we only have the original Tommy Boy with us. We don’t have the one that your type of bottle has”.

I shook my head in disbelief. She was basing perfumes on bottles? I just left and said you are fooling people but it will all come back to you and went away to avoid making a scene.

Oh and by the way, the perfume bottle that I did have really was the original Tommy Boy perfume straight from the United States. So I guess you know now why I was really pissed.

So when you happen to pass by Robinsons Galleria and see this stall on the 3rd level check out the sign. But avoid buying anything there. They are marketing something just for attention and if you do buy, it is just a waste of time.

The Rice Shortage Is Coming Next

Rice Shortage Philippines

Rice, something that most Asian countries consider as a main part of their meal, has joined the ranks of oil as far as shortages and rising outrageous prices in the world today. To most, rice is like bread. In the better off countries like the United States and Europe, you will rarely see rice as their main food carrier.

But for people in the Philippines and Thailand, rice is surely a great need. Not many people would understand why but apparently it originates from tradition. Today, the Philippines is really in a bind. Rice is strangely disappearing and the crops are weirdly disappearing. Worst, parasites called rice hoarders have seen this as an opportunity to make money, stocking up sacks of rice and hiding them and eventually offering them for sale at their commanded prices.

It makes you wonder if the government is indeed doing something about it. Then again, wouldn’t key people in the government have a hand in this? I wouldn’t be surprised. Corruption calling!

“The so-called rice crisis is really an income crisis,” said Rolando Dy, executive director of the food division of the Manila-based University of Asia and the Pacific.

He blamed “under-investment in agriculture and infrastructure, a poor record in eliminating poverty (and) poor infrastructure quality,” for the crisis which has forced thousands of poor Filipinos to line up for hours for subsidized rice.

“We cannot reap what we did not sow. We failed in reducing rural poverty compared to other countries,” like China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, he said.
