How to Think for Success – Part I

The following are some pointers gathered from several successful personalities from different fields of expertise.  Their concept of success is simple it encourages every individual to divert its focus in life positively.

THINK BIG. Aim high and think big!  The pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wll of China, the Empire State Building – they exist today because someone or some people thought big yesterday.  These were big ideas that become great realities.

THINK NOW. Think for the present moment.  Don’t think about the pst and what might have been or the future and what could be.  And while at it, make sure to act right now to immediately achieve what is desired.

THINK CREATIVE.  Thinking creatively is the highest form of thought and it involves the individuals supreme faculties and loftiest aspirations.  To think creatively, one has to be inventive, ingenious, innovative, clever, imaginative, artistic, resourceful, prioneering and most importantly, original.

THINK POSITIVE.  To think positively, one has to be a selective thinker.  There is the need to edit what enters the mind so that it will be full of nothing but positive and uplifting concepts and ideas.  One device that can be used is what is referred to as “looking for the gold in the mud”. or appreciating the goodness in any seeming failure or misfortune.  The positive thinker always dwells on the bright side of life and closes mind to any negativity.

THINK GOOD.  Thinking good is thinking for the common good.  The prime consideration should always be the benefits that a thought feeling or action will cause bring close other people and the earth.  Good things support, encourage, inspire and uplift people and maintain the natural ecological balance of every home.

As leader of a sales team, a sales manager is expected to motivate in order to achieve sales goals, to manage and solve problems fast and objectively, to fairly discipline erring subordinates.  Most importantly, sales managers need to inspire teamwork and cooperation while maintaining the interest of every member to perform their best.

Enumerated is the first series of some pointers which can help a sales manager to also become an effective leader:

  • Sales people should be treated the same as best clients are treated.
    • Listen to their needs and respond appropriately.
    • Listen carefully to their ideas, triumphs and problems.  Give them undivided attention while talking to them which for sure will be truly appreciated.
  • Should there be something to be done that is going to be disliked by the salespeople, this must be thoroughly explained.
    • Allow the salespeople see the overall picture.
    • Make the salespeople feel they are part of the whole organization and their efforts and cooperation are important to the total growth of the company.
  • Provide due recognition to sales people for their sales achievements.
    • Make announcements during meetings, issue memos or post announcements on the bulletin board.
    • Remember, most successful people are working not only for money but also for rewards brought about by the challenge and excitement of winning.
  • Sales people are to be praised in public but reprimanded in private.
    • Give the salesperson the chance to explain before making any criticism.
    • Begin the discussion with a question not with accusation.
    • Show concern for the salesperson welfare.
    • Praise salespeople as much as possible, but praise should be specific.  This will surely result to eminent loyalty and more sales.
  • Hold short meetings often with focus only on the positive.
    • Talk only about sales made.  This will inspire more confidence.
    • Remain positive whether sales are up or down.  The attitude of positivity or negativity is highly contagious.  It sets the mood for the entire team.

Effective communication is essential, in any business. In a single day, an employee may have to communicate with half a dozen different people, including clients, co-workers, employers, and suppliers. It is worthwhile to take some important in learning how to effectively communicate with other people. There are six tips in helping you to effectively communicate at work with others.

  1. Be clear to others when you speak to them. Do not give double meanings or jargon.
  2. Get to the point of the conversation. If you say too much, your listeners may tune out, or their minds will wander, and they could miss out on your most crucial points of the conversation.
  3. Be personal by not being cold in your speaking tone to others. Let your audience know you care about them as individuals as well and let your communication take their concerns into account. They will know then that they input is important to you as well.
  4. Listen to what they have to say. Communication is a two way street. You have to be willing to listen as well as to speak.
  5. Think before you speak. It reminds us to thing before what we are going to say before we say it and this way you can avoid misunderstandings and mixed communication.
  6. Do not be overly negative. It is necessary to expose and tackle problems in situations in order to solve them. You must also be to encourage others to achieve their full potentials as well.

Communication is not always easy, but effective communication makes your every day life easier. Accept the positive with the negative and encourage others to be at their best potential. Be clear, get to the point be personal, listen, think before you speak and avoid the extreme negativity and you will do fine in speaking to others such as your boss, co-workers, clients and others in the workplace.
