Many people enjoy the pleasure of scrapbooking and preserving their memories.  If you are a scrapbooker or enjoy crafts, maybe you can expand your hobby world into your own business!  People are willing to spend a considerable amount of money on craft supplies and pre-made pages and scrapbooks.  It’s one of the reasons that the craft industry continues to boom, and look as if it will continue that same trend.

With the crafting business you have a few options, I will go into them below including the positives and negatives of the choices.  Only you will know which is the right option for you.  This really is a fantastic option for those with a love of creating things.

Sell Pre-Made Pages and Scrapbooks

Selling pre-made pages and scrapbooks is a fantastic way to work and do something you love.  Finding clients can be difficult, but you can find them.  You can also sell your creations through e commerce websites (ebay, ecrater, etsy among many others), or even make your own website.

Pros: You get to actively create while earning.  Which, is a big reason why one would want to go into this business.

Cons: At first you won’t be earning much, especially when you consider that the money you can charge at first is significantly lower than after you make a name for yourself.  In the beginning most of the money you make will be going back into buying supplies.

Be a Consultant

Many crafting companies have consultants that host parties and sell crafting supplies.  It’s a good way to break into the business, and if you are natural teacher you can host how to parties as well!  You pay an upfront fee for the supplies (the price depends on the company usually around $99), and you get to keep it or sell it.  They all have different types of beginning kits, from huge to much smaller.  They are all offered at a much lower price than if you were to purchase it all individually.

Pros: You will be working with an already established company.  You can have a lot of fun hosting craft and scrapbooking parties.

Cons: The upfront cost (depending on the company) can be a bit steep depending on your present financial outlook.  There may be a large amount of consultants already for that company in your area.

As a note:  Before jumping in, research the company.  Many of the big names in craft supplies offer the consultant position.  It’s up to you however to research the amount of consultants in your area and if the company is indeed legitimate.
