Philippines Business News: Less Labor Strikes in 2009

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) aims to Protects Philippine workers in accordance with the labor laws. The Missions and Visions is to Promote gainful employment opportunities, develop human resources, protect workers and promote their welfare and maintain industrial peace and to attain a full, decent and productive employment for every Filipino worker.

According to the news, strikes in 2009 is lesser or lower than the past years. Record says that it has only four labor strikes in 2009 and none of them happened in Metro Manila, meaning none of the companies from Manila conducted strikes.

The four (4) strikes happened in Region IV-A, Region XIII and in Cebu City. Some of the reasons are having a poor economy at the said year and the destruction of the typhoons landed at the country.

Labor department says they manage to cut down the labor strikes. They acknowledged the board hard works by helping to rapidly settled labor arguments. Board members are studying all labor cases intensely to search for all the possible options to resolve each case. According to the reports, even the period of resolving is shorter than 2008. Fastest period is 23 days of settlement.
