While there are still some retractors to the internet’s huge grasp over the news and media world, the list below from a Forbes piece on the media elite, (penned by Katie Couric) leaves little doubt:

    1. Sergei Brin and Larry Page, Google Co-founders
    2. Julius Genachowski, Chairman of the FCC
    3. Arianna Huffington, Co-founder, The Huffington Post
    4. BlogHer Co-founders Jory Des Jardins, Elisa Camahort Page and Lisa Stone
    5. Craig Newmark, Founder of Craigslist
    6. Biz Stone and Evan Williams, Twitter Co-founders of Twitter
    7. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook Co-founder

Most of the people listed as the most important are all considered New Media.  Their are all the internet’s answer to the ‘norm.  The list also shows how important the internet itself is for business and consumers.

More people go to the internet first and foremost to find companies and company information.  With more people signing up and logging in everyday, no business can really afford to not be online anymore.

While the world is adapting to the new technologies, it really serves as an important reminder to network and draw attention to your products and services by utilizing the internet tools that we all have our disposal.  If anything, the internet has truly become the absolute level playing ground for business.

  1. I agree, the web allows for such great, targeted marketing that is it cannot be denied that it provides greater advertising opportunities than traditional media. We are going through a transition right now in that transitional media such as TV and radio will be run via the internet and they will have so many more options such as more tv on demand, etc.
