Influencing Others
Influencing people cannot be done overnight. A leader’s influence must be greater than the resistance of the people being influenced especially when they facing extreme difficult circumstances in life.
There are people who resist their leader because of FEAR of the unknown. These people look and see only pitfalls in accomplishing their task because of negative attitude like fear of failure, insufficient knowledge, lack of experience and low self-esteem. Only an effective leader can provide the solutions to overcome such fear and move forward in achieving their goals.
To be able to influence others, a leader must “walk his talk”. He must be a good role model. He must exhibit obedience by diligently following the rules and regulations of the organization as well as that of the community. He must have faith and courage in pursuing the vision and mission of the organization. He must be committed and willing to go the extra mile to be able to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives. And last but not the least, he must be a faithful partner to the organization and his people.
“When a leader that puts his family first, the community benefits. When a leader puts the community first, both his family and the community suffer”. Therefore, for a leader who wants to have good influence in the organization or in the community, it must begin at home. Starting at home is always the key to influencing others in a positive way. This can be done through reaching out and working out solutions to meet the emotional, physical, spiritual and financial needs of the family.
