Every executive should deal with errors in the workplace efficiently and should view that for any kind of error, there is an opportunity for growth and development.

The following techniques can help transform an error into learning experience that will lead to improvement and profit for the company or organization.

  • When an error is committed, deal with the problem immediately.
  • Assess the importance and significance of the error committed so that it can be scrutinized in proper perspective.
  • Thoroughly investigate every error made in the workplace to be able to determine the root cause.
  • Get all the necessary facts and evidences before making any conclusions and decisions.
  • When a subordinate committed an error, make sure to treat the problem objectively. Be careful not to show any irritation against the subordinate.
  • Formulate necessary procedures in preventing repetition of every error made in the workplace.
  • Ensure that subordinates are honest and open about their mistakes. As their superior, criticize their error constructively and outline necessary action to improve their work.
  • Maintain a record of every subordinates mistakes and remedies done to serve as guide for future corrective measures.
  • Conduct periodic error analysis to determine who among the employees are below standard performers and who among employees are doing the job right.
  • Call the people’s attention about their committed error in private to avoid embarrassment from others.
